Dragon terms appeared in stored prompts from 946 Magic Hour video creators from June through August 2026. Unicorn terms appeared for 128 creators. That means dragons reached 7.4 times as many creators in this sample.
The result runs against the softer creature that tends to win when people are asked what they want. In a 2021 U.S. survey of 518 adults, unicorns were the mythical creature respondents most wished existed. Magic Hour's data captures a different behavior: what appeared in stored text associated with completed video projects.

A red ceramic mug sits on a wooden café table beside a window. Steam rises slowly while the camera makes a gentle push-in. Soft morning light, realistic materials, one continuous shot, no people or readable text.

Try Text to VideoDragon: 946 creators, 1,562 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.57% of qualifying creators.
Fairy: 707 creators, 1,188 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.42% of qualifying creators.
Ghost: 642 creators, 1,082 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.38% of qualifying creators.
Alien: 629 creators, 1,260 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.38% of qualifying creators.
Zombie: 309 creators, 578 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.18% of qualifying creators.
Mermaid: 143 creators, 235 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.09% of qualifying creators.
Unicorn: 128 creators, 198 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.08% of qualifying creators.
Vampire: 128 creators, 275 completed projects mentioning the term, and 0.08% of qualifying creators.
The ranking uses distinct creators so that one prolific user cannot determine the winner. Creators can appear in more than one category, and the eight categories are a selected comparison rather than an exhaustive list of every creature in mythology or folklore.
Dragons also reached 34% more creators than fairies, the second-place category, and 50% more than aliens. Unicorns tied vampires for the smallest creator count among the eight categories that cleared the publication threshold.
The contrast does not mean people have stopped liking unicorns. A consumer survey asks respondents to choose from presented answers. Creation data captures what appears while people are making something, inside a particular product, during a particular period.
The finding may reflect the kinds of motion, scale, conflict, and transformation people associate with video. That is a possible explanation, not a conclusion established by this analysis.
External context: a 2021 Grunge survey of 518 U.S. adults reported that unicorns were the creature respondents most wished existed. The survey is context for the contrast, not evidence about AI-video behavior.
Magic Hour analyzed 453,301 qualifying completed video projects from 167,390 creators, created from June 1 through August 31, 2026, using UTC dates. The analysis retained the latest warehouse record for each project and excluded failed, deleted, disabled, templated, and blank-prompt projects.
Case-insensitive whole-word expressions identified singular and plural mentions of dragon, fairy, ghost, alien, zombie, mermaid, unicorn, and vampire in stored prompt text. Distinct creators were counted separately for each category. Every published category contained at least 100 creators.
As a robustness check, dragons remained first when each creator was limited to three matched projects. Dragons led the monthly creator ranking in June and August, while fairies narrowly led in July.
Magic Hour users are not representative of all AI video creators. The selected English-language terms do not capture translations, synonyms, named characters, or every folklore tradition. Stored prompt text may reflect product-side prompt processing on some routes, so the analysis does not characterize every match as verbatim creator-authored text.
The analysis reports aggregate counts only. It does not publish raw prompts, identities, project identifiers, uploaded media, or generated videos. Prompt mentions were not checked against finished outputs and do not measure audience popularity.
According to Magic Hour's analysis of 453,301 qualifying completed video projects created from June through August 2026, dragon terms appeared in stored prompts from 946 creators, compared with 128 for unicorn terms, a 7.4-to-1 difference.
