What is the difference between an AI image upscaler and an enhancer?

An AI upscaler primarily increases pixel dimensions. An image enhancer may also denoise, sharpen, correct lighting, restore faces, or synthesize texture. Many products do both, so the product name is less useful than checking the selected mode, exported dimensions, and whether the result preserves required details.

For photographs, products, documents, and historical images, begin with the most faithful mode and compare the output with the source at matched size. Use creative enhancement only when plausible new detail is acceptable. A sharper-looking result is not proof that missing text, identity, or texture was recovered accurately.

A fair five-image upscaler test

Use the same five permitted sources: a face, a product with small text, a compressed web image, an illustration and a low-light photo. Set a required output size, use the most faithful relevant mode first and save every result.

Review faces, hands, lettering, logos, straight edges, repeating textures, grain, halos and invented objects.
