How can lanterns fly?

Only six lanterns drifted slowly across the misty lake, forming a wide circle before soaring high into the sky, touching the clouds. Their warm light flickered on the still water, each reflection gently vibrating in the mist. The lake, silent and tranquil, surrounded by tall, dark trees, gradually sank into the fog.
