Generative Fill Use Cases

Add, replace, or remove selected content while keeping the rest of the image intact.

Add objects to an image

Select an empty area and describe the object, person, prop, or visual detail you want to add.

Brush over an existing object and prompt for something new while keeping the surrounding image intact.

Select an object, person, text fragment, or background distraction and use Erase to fill the area automatically.

Replace an outfit detail, accessory, color, or material without recreating the entire image.

Repair malformed details, missing objects, awkward hands, damaged backgrounds, or other localized generation errors.

Add props, decor, products, characters, or environmental details while exploring a visual direction.

Swap objects, adjust scene details, or create campaign variants without rebuilding the original composition.

Remove photobombers, clutter, unwanted objects, or small visual distractions before publishing.

Fast creative variations

Try different objects, materials, colors, outfits, or scene details from the same source image.

Easy to refine

Adjust the selection or prompt, compare results, and continue editing until the image works.

Generative Fill FAQ

Generative Fill is an AI image-editing tool that changes a selected part of an image. Use Brush or Lasso to mark an area, then describe what you want to add or replace. You can also erase selected content without entering a prompt.

The tool analyzes the selected area and the surrounding image. It generates new pixels that follow your prompt while attempting to match the existing composition, lighting, perspective, color, and texture. This process is also known as AI inpainting.

You can add objects, replace details, remove distractions, change clothing or accessories, repair localized image problems, and create variations without regenerating the entire image.

Generative Fill is designed for localized edits: you select a specific area before changing it. A general AI Image Editor may apply prompt-based changes more broadly across an image.

An object remover is optimized for deleting selected content. Generative Fill can erase a selection too, but it can also add or replace objects using a text prompt. Use Erase when you only want removal; use Generate when you want new content in the selected area.

A prompt is required when adding or replacing content with Generate. It is not required when using Erase to remove the selected area.

Describe what should appear inside the selected area and include important visual details such as color, material, style, lighting, angle, or texture. Clear selections and specific prompts usually produce more controlled results.

No. The uploaded image determines the artboard and output aspect ratio. Generative Fill edits content inside the existing image rather than expanding its canvas.

The tool is designed to focus changes on the selected area, although nearby pixels may be adjusted to blend the edit naturally into the image.

Yes. Select the object with Brush or Lasso and choose Erase. The tool fills the selected area using the surrounding image as context.

Clear, high-quality images with enough visible context around the selected area generally work best. Precise masks and prompts that match the image's perspective and lighting improve consistency.

Usage rights depend on the source image, generated content, applicable law, and Magic Hour's current terms. Only upload images you have the right to edit.
